IndiGlobal Media: In an inspiring reflection on India’s rich medical legacy and its future as a global healthcare leader, Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder of the Apollo Hospitals Group, emphasized the timeless relevance of Ayurveda and the need for an integrated healthcare approach.
Dr. Reddy began by acknowledging India’s tremendous progress in modern healthcare. “Today, I’m happy it’s not just Apollo—there are another 300 good hospitals in India,” he noted with pride. “India today can become a global healthcare destination.” He described this rise as a “seal by India,” reminding that the country’s leadership in medicine dates back to ancient times. “Way back in 750 BC, Sushruta performed the first surgery. Until 1250 AD, the world came to India for Ayurveda.”
A long-time believer in the power of traditional systems, Dr. Reddy reaffirmed his conviction: “I strongly believe in Ayurveda.” Apollo itself has invested in preserving and modernizing this heritage, with Ayurvedic hospitals in Delhi and multiple centres in Bengaluru, each focused on blending age-old practices with Apollo’s clinical excellence.

According to him, the future of healing lies in integration—not competition—between India’s diverse medical systems. “There should be an integration of Allopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy. All of these working together to see what best the patient can get,” he said. This approach, he believes, places patient well-being at the center, drawing on the strengths of each discipline.
Dr. Reddy illustrated this with a deeply personal example. “I have knee pain. They did a major surgery and all that—50% relief,” he shared candidly. “I then called the Ayurvedic people, and my knee became perfect. In two days, they applied some medicine, a patch, a little massage—and it became absolutely normal.” His message was clear: traditional systems still hold profound healing power, and India must embrace them with pride.
