It’s time to mask up and focus on hand hygiene as well if the gradual rise in the number of new Covid-19 cases in the country is an indication. For the first time since February, 2021 the daily positive cases figure crossed 20k. According to Health Ministry data, India reported 20,139 Covid infections in the last 24 hours. This is also a significant jump from the previous day’s figure of 16,906; a rise of over 3000 new cases in a matter of 24 hours. Also, 38 people died due to the virus in this period.

The active case load stands at 1.36 lakh and the daily positivity rate has increased to 5.10 percent. Due to gradual rise in Covid cases month after month and booster vaccination process going on at snail pace, the Centre has come up with a new action plan. The vaccine booster dose will be given free of cost to people in the 18-59 years age bracket from tomorrow (July 15). This drive will be conducted for 75 days marking the 75th year of India’s Independence, which the Centre declared as Azadi ka Amrit Kaal and holding several programmes to this effect.
