89th Indian Air Force Day celebrated today

The country has been celebrating October 8, as the Indian Air Force Day since the year 1932. This year it is the 89th anniversary of Indian Air Force Day. It has been observed with tremendous zeal and fervour at numerous Air Force bases around the country. On this day, establishment of the Indian Air Force (IAF) to assist the army fighting on the ground is revered with great respect. Indian Airforce Day aims to increase awareness about the Indian Air Force, also known as the ‘Bhartiya Vayu Sena’, as an organization that has been dedicated to enhancing national security and authority.

Indian Air Force ranks 4th in the world in terms of aircraft assets and personnel. Its primary mission is to safeguard India’s air space and provide aerial support in various situations. Since its inception, IAF has taken part in several wars, including four with Pakistan and one with China. “Nabham Sparsham Deeptham” is a motto of Indian Air Force which has been taken from Bhagwad Gita. It means “Touch the sky with glory.”
