More than 2,500 crores spent on Karnataka smart city projects

Since the financial year 2019-20, more than 2,500 crores have been spent on Karnataka smart city projects. Urban Development Minister, B.A. Basavaraja, revealed the figures in a meeting in Bangalore. 700 crores were spent during the financial year 2019-20, and 1,300 crores were spent during 2020-21. In the financial year 2021-22, so far 537 crores have been spent. Karnataka stood in 6th place in Smart City project implementation informed the officials in the meeting.

In Karnataka, Smart City projects are in progress in Bengaluru, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad, Shivamogga, Mangaluru, Tumakuru and Davangere. Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation are the nodal agencies responsible for implementation of Smart City projects in the state that are funded jointly by the state as well as central governments. On 16th August the Urban Development Minister, also chaired meeting of senior officials of the Urban Development Department, and directed them to take special care to ensure hygiene in corporation limits by starting a cleanliness drive. He also directed the officials to collect property tax efficiently and issue notices to those who have not cleared their dues.
