118 new battle tanks are being procured for Indian Army

Defence Ministry has placed order for 118 battle tanks – Arjun Mk-1A for Army. These are news variants of Arjun tank designed to enhance fire power, mobility, and survivability. It is infused with 72 new features and more indigenous content compared to the Mk-1 variant. It is equipped with accurate and superior firepower, all-terrain mobility and an invincible multi-layered protection provided by an array of advanced technology systems.

The total cost of the 118 battle tanks is Rs 7,523 crore and is all set to boost the combat capabilities of the Indian Army. Order has been placed with Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Avadi, Chennai. This move is being considered a big step towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The Defence ministry informed that these tanks are going to ensure effortless mobility in all terrains and would enable precise target engagement during day and night in both static and dynamic modes.
