WHO Chief says “thank you” to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has received a “thank you” message over tweet today from Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. This “thank you” gesture follows India’s announcement of resuming export and donation of excess vaccines from October 2021.

India has earned the title of ‘Pharmacy of the World’ and has produced highest number of vaccines overall. It had stopped vaccine exports in April to focus on vaccinating its own population. Export of vaccines comes under Vaccine Maitri drive of India. Before the export halt in April, India had sold or donated 6.6 crore vaccine doses to nearly 100 countries.
