PM, Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the nation’s Covid-19 situation. He also reviewed the Covid-19 vaccination drive in the country during the meeting.
This high-level meeting comes a day after Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan mentioned that second wave of Covid in India is not yet over. He further informed that 35 districts are reporting a weekly Covid positivity rate of over 10 per cent and 30 districts have been reporting 5 to 10 per cent of Covid cases.
As per the latest reports more than half of India’s adult population has received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine.18 per cent have got both the doses. The total number of jabs administered in India has crossed 72 crores.
Experts have been warning of a third Covid wave if strict precautions are not taken during the festive season. In view of this the state governments have already imposed restrictions like prohibition of pandal visits and only online worship during the ongoing Ganesh Mahotsav. Since vaccinations of children have yet not started, fear of increase in Covid cases is looming large if people do not follow health protocols in the ongoing as well as upcoming festivals.
