As part of Ganesh Mahotsav Indian Railways is going to run 261 Ganpati Special trains till 20th of this month. Central Railways is running 201 trains, Western Railway is running 42 trains and Konkan Railway is running 18 trains on special fare. These trains have started services from the last week of August. Reservation for these trains can be done at all PRS centres and on the website www.irctc.co.in. An Indian Railways statement notified that only the passengers with confirmed tickets will be permitted to board the special trains. Passengers have also been advised to strictly follow all norms, and SOPs related to Covid-19 during the boarding, travel, and at the destination.
The 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival commences on September 10. This festival is celebrated with great pomp and show in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh mainly and in rest of India as well to some extent. Idol of lord Ganesh is brought to the homes of the people. Lakhs of people travel from one place to another on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in September each year leading to heavy rush on trains.
