What is it with the Indian Administrative Service that people go to any extent to crack the exam? IITians, doctors, engineers and just about anyone give it all. Like every year this year too there are unbelievable stories of men and women ((Women bag top four Civils ranks) who made it against all odds.
Unlike in the past when toppers said that they just shut off from the world and just prepared. This time, many said they were active on social media and a few even went out with friends. A few devised their own ways to prepare and did not depend on coaching centres. Here are a few achivers:
In her previous two attempts, Ishita Kishore, 26 didn’t even clear the prelims. A Subroto Cup footballer kept working hard and became topper third time. Her story is a fine example of not letting failures kill your spirit. She studied 8-9 hours a day. She loves football and IAS. She said that during her preparation, she did not shy away from friends and social media.
Mangesh Killari, 23, whose parents sell chai and bidi in Sukewadi village in Ahmednagar cracked the UPSC exam passed out from a Marathi Medium Zilla Parishad school. He also worked part-time giving tuitions during his preparation. He took BA in Political Science.
N Uma Harathi’s father N Venkateshwarulu is the superintendent of police, Narayanpet in Telangana. Uma is a graduate from IIT Hyderabad but wanted to become an IAS officer. Her advice is to create one’s own strategy to crack the civils. Her decision to opt for Anthropology did the trick. This was her fifth attempt.
