Tele-Consultations of Doctors increased by 50 percent

Tele-consultations for general practitioners and pulmonologists across India have seen a 50 percent rise from January 1 st as complaints of soar throat, fever and body pains increased. Practo which is enabling healthcare professionals in tele- consultations has noted 132 percent increase in calls from January 1 st in Mumbai. This is followed by Kolkata at 106 percent, Delhi NCR at 95 percent, Bangalore at 75 percent, Chennai at 47 percent and Hyderabad at 42 percent.

The spread of Omicron variant in the community has already started and genome sequencing in private laboratories is showing that it is slowly replacing the delta variant. In Delhi, 25 percent of the samples tested in private laboratories are suspected to be of Omicron variant.

The cases have surged in the capital and every third person is suffering from cough, fever and cold.

Healthcare professionals are worried that those who have undergone home treatment and missed high-blood sugar levels, heart conditions and others will report to hospitals after 14 to 21 days.

They are expecting a challenge in the Post-Covid stage in those who have an underlying medical condition but not diagnosed.

For now, both private and government hospitals have minimal hospital admissions for Omciron variant.

Union health ministry in an advisory to all State governments has asked to install the delivered ventilators in their hospitals.
They have also asked to ensure all oxygen equipment, at the field level at all health facilities is tested and functional. A buffer stock of drugs is maintained so that there is no shortage. Preparedness in terms of medicines, medical equipment, medical and clinical requirements must be ready stated Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in a review meeting with all States and Union Territories.
