In his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast on February 23, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the escalating obesity epidemic in India, highlighting that one in every eight individuals is affected by obesity. He expressed particular concern over the four-fold increase in obesity cases among children in recent years.

To combat this health crisis, PM Modi nominated ten prominent individuals from various fields to lead initiatives aimed at reducing edible oil consumption and promoting healthier lifestyles. He encouraged these nominees to each select ten more individuals to expand the movement, fostering a collective effort to tackle obesity.
