Mumbai gets its first public electric vehicle charging station

Maharashtra Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated the electric vehicle charging station, set up by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This station is at a public parking lot in Mumbai’s Dadar area. In a press release BMC mentioned that 7 electric vehicles can be charged at a time. It is a unique facility as of now as it is the first of its kind at a public parking lot.

The environment minister has directed the civic body to set up more electric vehicles charging facilities as EVs are the need of the hour. He said that it is important to prioritize charging stations in parking lots of areas with high numbers of electric vehicles.

The newly set up station will be open for people round the clock. Four out of seven chargers are fast charging points that can fully charge an electric vehicle in 1 to 1.5 hours. Rest of the three are slower chargers that can charge a vehicle in 6 hours, mentioned the BMC release. Rs 15 per unit would be the charge for charging the EVs.
