Vocational education is one area in which a majority of students have an assurance of jobs but it is a segment that hardly gets its due. A panel discussion, however was dedicated titled ‘Reimagining Vocational, Technical Education and Training’ at the recently concluded 2nd IndiGlobal Education Festival.
India is making its presence felt in the comity of nations in almost every field, more so in education. The panellists were of the opinion that India is poised to take on the world only if the youth is nurtured. Tejwant Singh Chhatwal, Global Head UK Skills Ltd United Kingdom said, “We should identify the strength of the learners whom you come along and help him or her to progress in that direction, India will be once again the ‘Sone Ki Chideya’ in 20 years from now” Echoing a similar sentiment, Shrikanth Sinha, CEO, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge who moderated the session said, “We should change the methods to educate and train the students. Also, we have to ensure that we are able to take the benefit from our demographic dividend which exists in India.”
Best policy
Dr C Srinath, Secretary, State Board of Technical Education, Telangana said, “NEP is like our constitution where we have taken all the best practices of the countries and prepared the NEP. Because of this new Education Policy, no single credit is wasted. The best Education Policy after 30 plus years has been developed.” Pullaiah, Joint Director, Technical Education, Govt of Telangana said, “In this era of skills, the evolution of technical skill is required. We have a strong industry-institute interaction cell. We have the incubation centre. I can proudly say that there is 100 percent employment assured to the polytechnic students in different companies. Also, for the engineering student’s adequate numbers of employment facilities are there.”
Rajasekhar Buggaveeti, Founder and CEO, Creative Multimedia opined, “There is a massive demand of creative professionals in the industry whether its gaming, or it is graphic design. In last 24 years we have trained around 27,000 students in this industry and our content is being appreciated by the global audiences too.
The panellists were unanimous on one count- “India is poised to grow exponentially and vocational education has a major role to play in the economy.”
