The project is expected to be completed by 2023 at a cost of Rs 100 crore. In phase I, 22 junctions would be covered. It may be noted that the ICCC is long overdue and the project was put on hold due to a case pending in the Guwahati High court. According to sources, the decks have been cleared and the project would now be taken up in earnest.
The police submitted a list of traffic signals for the installation of CCTV cameras and traffic lights. The Assam Police and GSCL had in 2019 initiated a city surveillance project to install 400 cameras at a cost of Rs 2296 crore, which was also shelved. Sources say that this time around, the project would kick off and be completed by the 2023 deadline.
The integrated traffic management system (ITMS)project covering 95 junctions in the city to ensure proper management and surveillance of traffic has been awarded to Delhi based Onnyx Electronisys Pvt Ltd, which claims 17 years of experience in traffic signals management.
