IT, Industries and Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister K T Rama Rao stated that by March 23, Hyderabad will be the first city in the world to treat all its sewage per day. KTR was speaking at a programme organised by a media publication in Hyderabad on Monday. He outlined his big plans for Hyderabad’s all round development in infrastructure and basic facilities so that Hyderabad becomes one of the top 25 liveable Global Cities in the future. The Telangana Minister mentioned that they have turned towards expert studies-based approach to mitigate the unpredictability as far as climate is concerned.

The Telangana government is focused on addressing Climate Change challenges in Hyderabad. Unseasonal rains, cloudbursts, mercury soaring over 45 degrees, and extended monsoons have become the order of the day, he felt.

Climate Change is real and once considered exceptions have become the norm now. No matter the cause or reason may be unseasonal cloudbursts, citizens want governments to act swiftly and deliver, KTR opined

A Pune-based consultancy is roped in to prepare a hydrological map of Hyderabad and one of the outcomes from this was the launch of SNDP ( Strategic Nala Development Programme) with a budget of Rs 1000 Crore, the minister added.

KTR spoke about Solid Waste Management and Sewage Treatment Plant initiatives of the government. He said that by March 23 Hyderabad will be the first city in the world to treat all its sewage per day (nearly 1259 million litres) not letting out even a single drop of sewage untreated. KTR said in the next three years Telangana will increase its capacity of waste-to-energy plants from 20 MW to 68 MW in order to incinerate 100 per cent of waste into energy.
